Dr Justin Rogers appointed as new CEO of Martin James Foundation

Global charity group, the Martin James Foundation (MJF), has promoted Dr Justin Rogers to CEO, effective January 1, 2021. Dr Rogers previously held the role of Director of Programmes and Knowledge.

The foundation, set up by Jim Cockburn, envisions a world in which children do not live in institutions or orphanages and where they have the support to deal with the consequences of trauma in a safe, secure, and loving home. It has more than 30 years of experience of delivering foster care and family strengthening services through Key Assets and Foster Talk.

Dr Rogers will begin his role with the focus of building on the good work of the foundation and, with the support of colleagues across Key Assets and FosterTalk, support its global partners working on alternative care reform.

Dr Rogers enters this role with more than 27 years of experience in social work and social care, both in family placement practice and in the academic world.

From 2012 to 2020, he was an Assistant Professor and Director of Studies for the undergraduate social work programme at the University of Bath. His research interests focus on child welfare and child protection. His most recent projects have focused on childcare reform in Thailand.

Commenting on his promotion, Dr Justin Rogers said: “It is such an honour to become Chief Executive of MJF. The COVID-19 pandemic has had a huge impact on children and young people across the world and at this pivotal time, the work of MJF is more vital than ever.

It has been a privilege working as the Director of Programmes in 2020 and witnessing first-hand the impact of our work, delivering the highest quality care through our Key Assets and FosterTalk organisations. MJF’s strength is in being able to draw on this practice knowledge and skill base to develop partnerships and support projects in countries like Madagascar and Indonesia. Through a mix of funding and technical support, we have been able to promote deinstitutionalisation at a systems-level whilst supporting pilot family-based care projects that are bringing about change in their communities.

As CEO, I look forward to working collaboratively with colleagues across the foundation, our partners, and organisations so that MJF achieves Jim’s vision and supports the global movement to reform alternative care systems and promote children’s rights to family life.”
