Eurochild Throughout Europe

Eurochild is a network of organisations and individuals working with and for children in Europe. They are striving for a society where all children and young people grow up happy, healthy, confident and respected as individuals in their own right. They aim to bring about positive changes in the lives of children, in particular those affected by poverty and disadvantage.

In January 2020 we developed a partnership with Eurochild, who are influential advocates in the European Parliament and a key network promoting the reform of alternative care. Although progress has been made in child welfare, many countries across Europe still rely on institutional forms of care. However, because of research evidence showing us that children’s behavioural, social and emotional development is better supported in family-based care, progress continues to be made.

Through this fruitful partnership, MJF has supported Eurochild’s efforts to end institutional care and reform child welfare and protection systems across Europe.

The partnership was initially focused on advocacy and developing thematic position papers. However, as the Covid-19 pandemic unfolded, we worked with Eurochild to shift the focus of our work in order to respond to the crisis. As a result, we supported  Eurochild to monitor and track the impact of Covid-19 on child welfare and alternative care across Europe.

The partnership is also providing technical support and funding to the following three projects in Greece, Croatia, and Poland.
