Partnership Announcement: Martin James Foundation and Transform Alliance Africa

Supporting Momentum for an African led Movement for Family Care

Martin James Foundation (MJF) is thrilled to announce a new partnership with Transform Alliance Africa (TAA), a growing network of organisations working across the continent with a shared vision: an Africa free of orphanages, where all children belong and grow in safe and loving families This collaboration will support TAA at a pivotal point in its growth, as the Alliance expands its reach, strengthens its advocacy, and builds the infrastructure needed to coordinate and support a powerful, continent-wide movement for care reform.

About Transform Alliance Africa

Transform Alliance Africa brings together over 20 member organisations from 12 African countries, including several of MJF’s existing partners such as Child’s i Foundation, FAMadagascar, and Railway Children Africa. Through collaborative advocacy, capacity building, and peer learning, TAA aims to end institutional care for children and promote care systems that prioritise families and communities. TAA works to influence national and regional policies, support care reform initiatives, and ensure that care-experienced individuals are meaningfully included in shaping the movement. The Alliance provides training, resources, and a platform for organisations to learn from each other, adopt effective practices, and strengthen their impact.

Why This Partnership Matters

Across Africa, many organisations working on care reform operate in isolation, without the networks or shared learning needed to scale impact. TAA addresses this gap by strengthening connections between organisations, reducing duplication of effort, and amplifying proven approaches that can drive systemic change. MJF’s funding will support TAA’s core functions during a critical period of momentum, enabling the Alliance to refine its strategy, strengthen coordination, and scale its influence. The partnership reflects MJF’s long-term commitment to supporting locally led, collective approaches to care reform that centre the voices of communities and children themselves.

Standing With a Movement Led by African Expertise

Transform Alliance Africa is a powerful example of African-led collaboration driving systemic change for children across the continent. As a growing collective of organisations rooted in local expertise and experience, TAA is shaping the future of care through shared learning, advocacy, and coordinated action. At MJF, we recognise the value and urgency of this work. We are pleased to provide flexible, trust-based funding to support the Alliance in advancing its own strategy and priorities. This partnership reflects our commitment to locally led change, and we are grateful for the opportunity to contribute to a movement that is both vital and visionary.
