MJF Global
MJF Global, the Foundation’s charitable arm, uses learning and resources generated by organisations within MJF to reduce the reliance on institutional care for children around the world through supporting successful family-based alternatives and advocating for change.
Recognising that the leading factor in children being placed in orphanages is poverty, not the loss of parents, MJF Global is committed to facilitating local solutions that enable children to grow up in safe and loving families. Institutional care has been proven to be detrimental to children’s development, it is expensive, often exploitative, and always unnecessary. Instead, MJF firmly believes that safe, context-specific, and culturally appropriate family-based care offers improved outcomes for children, families, and the communities and systems that support them.
By partnering with and investing in organisations in countries where family-based alternative care is not commonly available, MJF Global supports the development of family strengthening, gatekeeping systems, kinship care, and foster care services tailored to the specific needs of children and families in those communities.
As an organisation, MJF recognises the privilege it occupies and commits to using its funding, experience, and global networks to invest in work that shifts resources to organisations who are working to strengthen and reform child protection systems and alternative care practices in their contexts.
